Environmental & Social Safeguards Management in Infrastructure and Development projects Training

Course Overview

Multilateral lenders, including the World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB), and European Investment Bank (EIB), enforce rigorous environmental and social standards. Non-compliance, inadequate grievance mechanisms, or poor community resettlement planning routinely result in suspended funding disbursements or project halts.

This 5-day intensive course equips participants with the knowledge and practical tools to manage environmental and social safeguards across development projects. It emphasizes compliance with international standards such as IFC Performance Standards, AfDB ISS, World Bank ESF, and national regulatory frameworks. Participants will gain the capacity to identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor environmental and social risks in diverse project contexts.

The course covers key thematic areas including impact assessment, stakeholder engagement, grievance redress mechanisms, labor and working conditions, biodiversity conservation, and monitoring frameworks. Each module integrates real-world case studies, practical exercises, and simulation labs to reinforce learning.
