One Health Operationalization: Surveillance, Climate-Induced Diseases & Cross-Sectoral Health Security Training

Course Overview

Escalating human-wildlife interfaces, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and vector-borne shifts prove that human health security cannot be managed independently of environmental and animal health.

The One Health Approach Training Course is a comprehensive professional development program designed to equip public health professionals, physicians, veterinarians, environmental health officers, epidemiologists, laboratory professionals, healthcare managers, agricultural specialists, wildlife conservation officers, policymakers, researchers, humanitarian practitioners, health informatics specialists, development partners, and disaster risk management professionals with the knowledge and practical skills required to implement the One Health Approach for improving human, animal, and environmental health. As governments and international organizations increasingly adopt One Health, global health security, digital epidemiology, public health intelligence, artificial intelligence (AI), predictive analytics, Electronic Health Records (EHRs), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), big data analytics, cloud computing, climate resilience, and digital health technologies, interdisciplinary collaboration has become essential for preventing zoonotic diseases, controlling antimicrobial resistance, strengthening food safety, improving environmental sustainability, and enhancing pandemic preparedness. This course provides practical methodologies for integrating human, animal, and environmental health systems into coordinated surveillance, prevention, and response programs that support resilient health systems and sustainable development.

Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of One Health principles, zoonotic disease surveillance, ecosystem health, environmental risk assessment, veterinary public health, infectious disease epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), food safety systems, wildlife health, laboratory surveillance, health information systems, artificial intelligence, predictive disease modelling, GIS mapping, healthcare analytics, climate-sensitive disease surveillance, emergency preparedness, health policy, and intersectoral governance. The course explores One Health applications in pandemic preparedness, emerging infectious diseases, vector-borne diseases, environmental pollution, biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, humanitarian emergencies, precision public health, and sustainable development while emphasizing integration with Electronic Health Records, Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), Health Information Exchange (HIE), veterinary surveillance systems, environmental monitoring platforms, and national public health information systems. Practical exercises demonstrate integrated surveillance, outbreak investigation, risk assessment, predictive analytics, and coordinated response planning.

The training further explores emerging technologies including artificial intelligence-assisted disease surveillance, machine learning, blockchain-enabled health data security, Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), remote sensing, satellite monitoring, cloud-based One Health platforms, natural language processing (NLP), explainable artificial intelligence (XAI), healthcare cybersecurity, interoperability standards including HL7 and FHIR, regulatory compliance, ethical governance, and international best practices. Participants will examine governance structures, multisectoral collaboration, policy development, emergency coordination, quality assurance, organizational readiness, resource mobilization, implementation strategies, and continuous improvement approaches required to establish sustainable One Health systems.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will possess the competencies required to evaluate, design, implement, manage, monitor, and continuously improve One Health programs that strengthen zoonotic disease prevention, environmental health management, food safety, antimicrobial resistance control, pandemic preparedness, public health surveillance, operational resilience, and organizational excellence. The course combines expert-led presentations, practical demonstrations, multidisciplinary simulations, collaborative workshops, implementation projects, web-based tutorials, and real-world One Health case studies to ensure participants acquire immediately applicable scientific, technical, analytical, managerial, and leadership competencies.

  1. Understand the principles, concepts, and global importance of the One Health Approach.
  2. Strengthen integrated surveillance for human, animal, and environmental health.
  3. Apply epidemiological methods to zoonotic disease prevention and outbreak response.
  4. Utilize artificial intelligence, GIS, predictive analytics, and digital technologies in One Health programs.
  5. Improve food safety, antimicrobial resistance management, and environmental health monitoring.
  6. Integrate One Health information systems for evidence-based decision-making.
  7. Strengthen multisectoral collaboration among health, agriculture, wildlife, and environmental institutions.
  8. Improve pandemic preparedness, emergency response, and climate-sensitive disease management.
  9. Evaluate One Health programs using internationally recognized monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
  10. Develop strategic implementation plans for sustainable One Health systems.
